Ram Setu is a notorious ground that connects India and Sri Lanka. Indian tradition says that the ground is constructed by Lord Rama’s army, and is erected by floating monuments.
The Ram Setu, or the Adam’s Bridge, a limestone trail connecting Pamban islet off the seacoast of Tamil Nadu to the Mannar islet off the seacoast of Sri Lanka has been the focal point of political, religious and ecological difficulties for decades. Present- day politics around the nature of the ‘ ground ’ stems from the Hindu mythological belief that the structure was erected by an army of monkeys, led by Lord Hanuman on behalf of Lord Ram whose army was marching towards Lanka to deliver his woman
Sita, held interned by Ravan. The structure is also said to be of significance in Abrahamic persuasions for it’s believed to be Adam’s vestiges from the time he was expelled from paradise, thereby giving it the name ‘ Adam’s Bridge ’.
But its position is also of strategic interest. As beforehand as the 19th century, the British had planned to comb this channel to enable big vessels to navigate along the Indian seacoast or to travel between the east and west beachfronts.
While the British plans noway succeeded, the design was revived in Independent India as the Sethusamudram Project.
In a study named ‘ Project Rameswaram ”, the Geological Survey of India stated that between,7000 and 18000 times agone, the islets of Rameswaram, India, and Talaimannar, Sri Lanka wereexposed. However, it can be said that the Adam’s Bridge or the Ram Setu was formed around 500- 600 times agone, If we include the courting or corals.
Valmiki’s Ramayana, a Hindu epic, first mentioned the notorious Ram Setu ground. It’s mythologically believed to be constructed by Lord Rama’s Vanara Sena( an army of monkeys).
Nala, a vanara from the sena, is considered the principal mastermind behind the ground who instructed other members of the sena to make the ground. The ground was constructed to help Lord Ram reach Lanka in order to deliver his woman Sita from Raavana.
Despite the strong belief of utmost of the Indian population on the mythological significance of the ground, there’s no scientific evidence stating that the ground is man- made. Up to the 15th century, the ground was reportedly passable on bottom.
As per the tabernacle records, the ground was entirely above ocean position till 1480. still, natural disasters entirely immersed the ground in the shallow ocean.
